I have written a lot about Paris Fashion Week, my love for Paris, and the beauty of Paris Fashion. To spare you with my bi-annual sappy love letter to Paris, I decided to take a different route. The thing about Paris Fashion Week is that there are a lot of iconic designers who show here. Chanel, Christian Dior, Valentino, Celine, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and so on and so on. Not only are these major fashion labels, but their collections are almost always a home run. I have my number one's that ALWAYS do it for me and I get so excited to review, but this season something changed. Coming off of the heels of Milan, where I had to narrow down my favorites for my most recent post because there were so many amazing moments, I had a huge build up of excitement for my favorite I would see in Paris. Maybe I should not make that mistake again because several of my absolute die-hard favorites let me down BIG. Starting with Christian Dior. Its Spring collection was so glamorous, inspired, and fun that I wanted to run out and buy a colorful mirrored gown that moment. This season's collection was a throw back to the 1960's and the feminist hippie days as parallelism the feminist days we are currently living in, but it brought all the worst of that decade. The color scheme, the denim, the patchwork quilt fabrics, the crochet, the old floral patterns, even the shearling coats were all so wrong. It didn't feel glamorous or high fashion, it felt as if it was taken from a box in someone's attic that they kept from their teenage years. It was so sad that I could not find one look to fall in love with. Another collection that was disappointing for me was Saint Laurent. The previous collections have been so great, they have been my best of fashion week looks. I even dedicated an entire Trend Commandments to their Sparkle Boot from their Fall show. This collection was so under-whelming I couldn't force myself to review it as a best-of. Saint Laurent usually kills it with their black looks, but this collection seemed repetitive and there was no wow moments for me like there has been in the past. A complete dissapointment That being said, with the lack of luster from some of my favorites, there was room available for me to review some collections I don't always consider my favorite. But completely came to win this week. I chose to highlight those and the classics that I love that did live up to the brand expectations below. LANVINStructural important. Fine tailoring, well fitted attire. Modern tailoring. Valentino/Stella McCartney style runway. DRIES VAN NOTENbalmainI can't even talk about this show with out becoming a total dork. It is everything I could have ever wanted and everything I never knew could exist. The most beautiful, glamorous, sparkly, inspirational clothing all in one show. I am schvitzing at the sight of everything. Safe to say that this Balmain collection is my favorite of Paris Fashion Week, but also all of Fall 2018 Fashion Weeks. The iridescent and silver metallics mixed with the beautiful shades of pink, neons, and blacks make for a great Fall collection and also the most on-trend and fashion forward looks. This is modern day glamour at its best. CHLOEThe cool girl of the runway shows. Chloe has always been this perfect blend of feminism and androgyny. Making fashionable girls try cool trends. elie saabDarker and richer than usually. This years show mixed in elements that seem right off the western front; denim, leather, suede. But of course paired beautifully with Elie Saab staples such as sequins, jeweled and floral embellishments, frilly fabrics, and feminine patterns. givenchyThe Givenchy show, as always hit it out of the park. The quality of the designs is in a league of only the top notch players. It looks so beautiful and expense that it completely lives up to the name. valentinoI dont think I have ever not reviewed a Valentino show. It is an all time classic and after the upset I received from the lack of wow at Christian Dior and Saint Laurent I was nervous that my other favorites would not show up this season. But I should've known better. Valentino always does. Valentino is special because it creates its own breed of style. Like Chanel and its tweed skirt and jacket sets, Valentino has given life to the A-frame maxi gown. More popular than ever, and seen on more red carpets than every before. These (often) long sleeve flowing gowns are changing the game for everyday style. They can transform from comfortable to glamorous and are honestly the freshest clothing style that the 2010's have to offer the world. This season's colors, sequin detailing, floral embossments, and seamlessly layered gowns are the perfect new sophistication for today's women. chanelChanel is a love-hate relationship in my opinion. I love Chanel, I love the designs of Chanel. I love the brand of Chanel, and I love of all of the hoopla of Chanel. But every once in a while Karl puts out collections that I don't tend to fall in love with. Yes they are always beautiful, and yes they have a creative genius behind them. But often, Chanel puts out their collections in colors that I cannot get behind. Most recently in the Spring 2018 Couture show. Pastels are a go-to for Chanel and help keep the fresh femininity that Chanel has mastered over the years. But I tend to love color schemes and collections like the ones displayed this week. It is no secret I love a darker color concept and a fall season. But the blend of the feminine detail with the more masculine persona's fall brings forward, makes collections like this so intriguing and more likely for me to purchase. ALEXANDER MCQUEENThis was perhaps the best surprise of all of fashion week for me. Alexander McQueen shows are alway incredible and work of art but the looks aren't always relatable for real world situations. And this collection could not be further from the later. It was artistic with functional tailoring. Beautiful made in great and wearable designs. It was a gorgeous show full of gorgeous pieces and something I could actually comprehend to review. Either fashion is becoming more day-to-day appropriate or my style is turning more towards loving the high-fashion bizarre.
